Under the guising role of mother, wife and business woman it is hard to determine that I suffer from Chronic Illness. In 2018 after suffering for over six months, I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. It's a chronic pain that leads to widespread muscle pain and tenderness. And although it affects over 4 million adults in the U.S., there is no cure. Yet!
I'm no stranger to hard times. Having become a mother at 16 years old, participating in a study abroad program in Dominican Republic to study generational poverty, and graduating with a Bachelor’s in Gender and Women Studies and a minor in African-American Studies, I’m well-informed of the intersections and difficulties that life can bring. So throwing in the towel of defeat wasn't an option for me. I pulled up my sleeves and learned to manage this new role in my life, as a Fibromyalgia Warrior.
